Grades: Troubleshooting Final Grades

The following information may help diagnose and correct difficulties submitting final grades to the Registrar from Carmen. If your questions are not resolved by these suggestions, please contact (614) 688-HELP or send email to 8help@osu.edu for assistance.

Issue: Percentage Grades

Description: Upon submitting final grades, instructors receive the error "the system detected percentage grades in your Final Calculated or Adjusted Grades column."

Cause: Use of percentage grades rather than letter grades in the Grade Scheme

Resolution: The gradebook setup needs to be modified to display letter grades in the Final Calculated or Adjusted Grade column. See Selecting a Grading Scheme. (Note: You must be sure you have letter grades in the Final Grades column you have chosen to release – see Final Calculated or Adjusted Grades below.)

Issue: Final Calculated or Adjusted Grades

Description: Upon submitting final grades, instructors receive the error "the system was unable to locate letter grades in your Final Calculated or Adjusted Grades column."

Cause: The Final Grade column (Calculated or Adjusted) you have selected to release does not contain letter grades.

Resolution: Check whether you have selected to release the Calculated or Adjusted Final Grade. (Note, Final Adjusted Grades must appear as letter grades -- see Percentage Grades above.) See Set Up Grade Calculation Method and Calculating Final Grades.

Issue: Unable to Complete This Process

Description: Upon submitting final grades, instructors receive the error "the system was unable to complete this process."

Cause: Due to a system error or heavy traffic, no grades were transferred to the Registrar.

Resolution: Please wait a few minutes and try again. If this error persists, please contact (614) 688-HELP or send email to 8help@osu.edu for assistance.
