Preferences

Under My Preferences, you can modify the following personal settings:

Accessing Preferences

1. Log in to Carmen.

Attention The first page when you log in to Carmen is the My Home page. You can return to your My Home page from any page by clicking My Home in the upper-right corner.

2. Click on My Preferences in the Welcome widget at the top-left portion of the screen.

3. Click on a tab to choose the tool whose preferences you want to change.

General Preferences

Use the information below to update your general preferences. You may update one or all of the settings listed, but always be sure to save before exiting.

1. Click My Preferences from your My Home page.

2. Set your Online Status.

3. Select your Navigation bar auto-refresh setting.

Attention For those using assistive technology, the recommendation is to turn the auto-refresh option off. To refresh the navigation bar when this option is off, go to My Home, select a course, or use the refresh feature in your browser.

4. Update your Font Settings.

5. Select the appropriate Course CD-ROM Drive Letter.

Attention If your course includes CD-ROM content, indicate where your CD drive is located for Carmen. If you provide CD-ROM content to your students, be sure to remind them to update their preferences as well.

6. Select your Operating System.

7. Click Save.

Paging Preferences

Paging options affect the number of items that appear on a page. For example, you can set the number of students to appear on each page in the Grades tool.

1. Click My Preferences from your My Home page.

2. Click the Paging tab.

3. Use the drop-down lists to select paging values for various tools.

4. Click Save.

Discussion Preferences

Select the layout and organization of your discussion forums and topics from this page. The default preferences you set here can be overridden as needed when using the discussion tool.

Attention If you haven't used the discussion tool, you may want to accept the default settings and revisit discussion preferences later.

1. Click My Preferences from your My Home page.

2. Click the Discussions tab.

3. Click the radio buttons to indicate your choice of:

5. Click Save.

Email Preferences

1. Click My Preferences from your My Home page.

2. Click the Email tab.

3. Check Send a copy of each outgoing message to youremailaddress@osu.edu if you would like to receive a copy in your OSU email account.

4. In 'Reply to' Email Address: type in the email address you would like to receive the reply to.

5. You can add an Email Signature in the box provided if you would like to include a signature in each outgoing email. Check In HTML if your signature is in HTML format.

6. Click Save.

Pager Preferences

The Pager tool allows course participants to send text messages directly to other course participants or any Carmen user. (See Pager: Overview for information on using the Pager.)

1. Click My Preferences from your My Home page.

2. Click the Pager tab.

3. Click Off to turn off Incoming Page Icon in top right corner.

4. To turn off noise of the pager during an incoming page, click no noise.

Attention You can also change the noise of the pager during an incoming page by choosing from the list of sounds provided.

5. Click Save.
