The navigation bar is the menu across the top of a Carmen course site that contains links to course tools. Instructors can easily add and remove tools from the navigation bar. Instructors can also choose from a set of options for a banner/header graphic.
To add tools to the navigation bar:
Show me how to add tools to the Navigation Bar.
When adding new tools to your course Navigation Bar, please avoid modifying the options on the Top Right and Bottom Right to keep general Carmen navigation consistent for your students.
The Bottom Left and Top Left sections of the Navigation Bar are most noticable to users. Removing all tools from Top Left or Top Right sections of the Navigation Bar can make it difficult for students to see tools in the bottom sections.
1. Click Edit Course at the top right of My Home page.
2. Select
NavBars from the list of tools.
3. Select the area of the page you would like the link to appear. This can be chosen by the Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Left, and Bottom Right tabs.

4. Click and highlight the tool you would like to add in the Inactive Links window.
5. Click > to move the link from Inactive Links to the Current Active Links window.
You can also move links from Current Active Links to Inactive Links by clicking and highlighting the link and clicking <.
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to add more links.
Re-order your Current Active Links by highlighting the links and clicking
Up or
Down.
7. Click Preview to view your Navigation Bar with the new links.
Always preview your Navigation Bar at 800X600 to ensure all links will be visible to students. Too many links at Top left or Bottom Left will push links on the right side off of some users' screens. If the Bottom Left Navigation Bar includes too many links, begin adding tools to the Top Left Navigation Bar next.
8. Click Save.
To choose a different banner/header graphic:

Edit Navbar in the top-left navigation bar.
2. In the Template dropdown menu, choose a banner/header option.
3. Click Preview to see the banner/header option with the current set of navigation links.
4. Click Save.
