Common Questions: Using Carmen with Non-Academic Courses and Non-OSU Guests

Faculty and staff can request Carmen space for University purposes. Individuals who are not current faculty, staff, or students must be given guest accounts to access Carmen.

Following are common scenarios and instructions for these options:

Common Scenarios Instructions
  • Use Carmen to facilitate communication and file-sharing among OSU faculty and staff.

  • Use Carmen to facilitate a project with a group of OSU students.

  1. Request Carmen Space.
  2. After your Carmen space has been created (in 2-4 days), upload your materials and build your course. See Share Course Materials for some starting points.
  3. When you are ready, enroll participants and then activate your course.

 

  • Invite a colleague from another institution to review your existing Carmen course.

  • Invite a guest speaker or outside expert to interact with students in your existing Carmen course.

  1. Request a guest account. Account creation takes 1-2 days. (There is no charge for this kind of access.)
  2. Once the account is created and activated (in 1-2 days), enroll your guest.

 

  • Use Carmen for an on-campus workshop or conference with attendees who are not OSU faculty, staff, or students.

  • Use Carmen for a non-credit distance course offered to learners who are not OSU faculty, staff, or students.

  1. Request Carmen Space.
  2.  After your Carmen space has been created (in 2-4 days), upload your materials and build your course. See Share Course Materials for some starting points.
  3. Request guest accounts for your participants. Account creation takes 1-2 days. (There is an $18 per user charge.)
  4. When you are ready, enroll participants and then activate your course.
