Edit Course Home

You can modify the layout of your Carmen Course Home page by adding, removing, or rearranging the widgets it displays. (Widgets are special tools available through Carmen to display units of information; they appear on the screen in boxes with title bars.)

1. On the Manage Homepages screen (Edit Course > Homepages), click on the button to Create New Homepage. Provide a name and description to help you remember the characteristics of this homepage. Click Save.

Note the diagram and the tabbed headers:

Choose widgets to add to the course home.

Each box on the diagram corresponds to a tab header. Clicking on either the box or the tab will allow you to add widgets to that section of your homepage. Columns 1 and 2 are used in the default Carmen homepage. The Header and Footer areas allow a widget to spread across the full width of a page. You can also modify the widths (in pixels) of Columns 1, 2, and 3.

2. Choose a homepage section, then select widgets from the Available Widgets box and move them to the Active Widgets box. Repeat for each widget you want to add.

Your custom homepage starts out with no active widgets. To preserve continuity and ease of use, you may want to set up Columns 1 and 2 to mimic the default:

When setting column widths, be sure to click the Save Column icon, which looks like a floppy disc, before clicking Save.

3. Click Save, and then go back to Manage Homepages. Notice that you now have a homepage that you can edit in addition to the default Homepage provided by the Carmen team.

4. Click on the X in the Active column next to your new course homepage. The X will change to a checkmark, indicating that your new page is the one in use.
