OSU Libraries and Carmen

The Carmen team partners with the OSU Libraries to offer the following services:

eReserves via Carmen

The Office of eReserves uses Carmen to distribute electronic reserves (eReserves). Carmen provides a secure way to share library electronic reserves, which often have copyright restrictions, with only those students who should see them.

eReserves can scan materials and upload them into your Carmen course -- even if you’re not using Carmen’s other features. If needed, the Copyright Help Center provides copyright consultation services and investigates permissions for course use.

In cases where instructors choose not to use Carmen, librarians activate Carmen courses solely for the purpose of delivering eReserve resources to students.

For more information or to request service, please visit University Libraries, email libeReserves@osu.edu, or call 614-292-6448.

Carmen's Librarian Role

Carmen provides a Librarian role that allows librarians to work closely with instructors in developing courses and offering research resources. This role includes access to all course content and files, as well as the ability to create and edit quizzes, surveys, and dropboxes and to view student progress data and the gradebook.

To find out how the Librarian role might benefit to your courses, talk to your subject area librarian.

Course instructors are able to add a librarian to their own courses. See Enroll Participants for instructions.

Pilot Test: Library Resource Link

For Autumn 2007, OSU Libraries and the Carmen team are pilot-testing a Library link in the navigation bar within some Carmen courses. This link leads to a page of library resources created especially for the course, department, or college by a librarian with subject area expertise. Resource pages may also include an FAQ and contact information for the subject area librarian.
