Below are the basic steps to prepare your course for the start of the quarter and to close it out at the end of the quarter.
Find your course. Go to carmen.osu.edu and login with your OSU Internet Username (lastname.#) and password to find your course.
If you can't find your course, check with your department to ensure you are listed as the instructor of the course with the Registrar's office.
Upload course materials. See Content: Basic for details.
Post a news item to orient and welcome your students. See News: Basic for details.
Use News to link to outside web sites and to other pages within your course, such as Content Discussion forums. You can also insert images.
Use the RoleSwitch widget on the course homepage to preview your course from a student perspective. See Role Switch for details.
If desired, create a backup of your course for your long-term records. Note that this backup can only be accessed only when imported into a Course Management System. See Copy Course Components for details.
- If you used Discussions, check the Discussions area for any late-appearing questions. Reply via email to be sure the inquiring student receives the answer.
If you wish to save copies of discussions forums, compile and print them. See Backing Up Data for details.
- If you used Quizzes, check for open quiz attempts and close them. For each quiz, click on the Grade Quiz icon and then use the dropdown box and search button to filter for any users with attempts in progress. Use Quiz tool's impersonate feature to access the quiz and submit it.
Turn off address book. De-activate the course address book to streamline it before the new quarter begins. (We suggest you do this even if your course will remain available to students.) See Activate Course for details about this setting.
Deactivate your course when your students no longer need access. See Activate Course for details about this setting.
