Guest Access To Carmen

To enroll people from outside Ohio State in a Carmen course, faculty and staff may request short-term sponsored accounts through OIT Customer Service. Sponsored accounts have access to Carmen, library resources, and on-campus computer labs.

Terms

Faculty or staff members requesting accounts are responsible for:

• Ensuring that sponsored accounts are used in a manner consistent with the University mission.
• Providing basic technical support to their guests.
• Verifying that their guests do not have an existing OSU internet account that could be reactivated.
• Enrolling guest accounts in Carmen courses.
• Submitting user fees for non-OSU Carmen enrollments when appropriate (see below).

Fees

OSU student technology fees pay for Carmen, and our license with the vendor also includes an additional charge for guest users. We therefore charge at cost -- $18.00 per user per year -- for non-OSU Carmen users. The fee pertains to:

• Non-OSU student enrollments in Carmen course sites
• Conference attendees using an affiliated Carmen site
• Grant-funded non-OSU members of research or working groups

The fee does not pertain when access is for the purpose of:

• Guest or co-instruction
• Peer-review of your Carmen site

When you know the final numbers of non-OSU participants, submit fees via 100W to Sandy Bell in OIT Business Sercies (fax: 614-292-9350) -- contact carmen@osu.edu with questions.

How to Request Sponsored Accounts

Request accounts by contacting OIT Customer Service via the Help Desk at 8Help@osu.edu or 688-HELP. Requests to the Help desk should include the following information:

• The purpose for which the accounts are to be used;
• Each guest user’s first and last name; a valid, working e-mail address; and a telephone number; and
• The length of time for which the account is needed.

Please allow at least two business days for accounts to become available for enrolling into a Carmen course.
