Section lists
Course Sorcerer uses the section list as its primary organizational scheme. The section list contains instructors and students. CS instructors are the individuals responsible for the section list or course (hereafter referred to as "instructors").
Instructors can update the section list by adding and dropping students. They also can create, grade, and score online assignments and tests relative to a section list (more on these features in the assignment and gradebook sections). A section list is simply a list of individuals in a group (typically students in a section of an OSU course), although any group of individuals can be included in a section list. Any reference to "students" within Course Sorcerer simply means the individuals that you define as belonging to a particular section list. This allows the tool to be used for purposes other than an official OSU course, e.g., on-line surveys such as anonymous student evaluation of teaching, Delphi decision making processes for groups, etc.
In the case of an OSU course, Course Sorcerer can import the class roster directly from the Registrar's Office with one click of a button. When a section list corresponds to an OSU course with a valid call number and a quarter/year code, CS can provide a populated section list to help you get started. Moreover, a "sync" feature can be used to automatically update your section list by (1) adding new students; (2) identifying those without proper OSU Internet username necessary for accessing the online assignments and tests; and (3) highlighting in bold type those who have dropped the course. Course Sorcerer will not drop students automatically; this must be done manually by an instructor. If necessary students can be added manually, although it is important to remember that the instructor names must be accurate so students will be able to access their work.
