Digital Storytelling: Personal Narratives for a Public Audience

Digital stories use a personal narrative to educate and inform.

Ohio State’s Digital Storytelling initiative has been working with faculty and staff to foster storytelling for a digital age. Over the last few years, the group has sponsored workshops and showcases to encourage use of digital stories in teaching, research, and community outreach. Second Life Offers New Experiences for Students and Faculty

Second Life, an online virtual environment, has been getting a lot of attention on Ohio State's campus in recent months. Two instructors in particular have already begun incorporating Second Life into their classroom curriculum. Sharon Collingwood (Women's Studies) uses it as a means to study social interaction; Doug Danforth (College of Medicine) uses it as a building tool to model human anatomy. more

Electronic Textual Editing Course Bridges Past and Future

How do you preserve the concept of a printed book or manuscript when future generations might never hold a hardcover or paperback? H. Lewis Ulman, Associate Professor of English and Assistant Dean in the College of Humanities, asked himself this question when Google began digitizing books. He set out to find a solution and, in the process, created an opportunity for students to help preserve historical documents that otherwise might not be available online. more

Carmen DS Program Offers Training, Community, and "Super Powers"

Carmen Distributed Support (DS) affiliates are a group of designated college and departmental instructional support staff who receive training and increased system access. Anand Khurma, Manager of Educational Technology for the College of Pharmacy, is a shining example of the DS program. He jokes that the Pharmacy faculty say he has Carmen "super powers" that allow him to make changes, such as merging course sections or enrolling TAs. more
