WIKI PILOT
In Winter 2008, TELR began evaluation of a university-supported wiki service for teaching and learning. 32 participants from 22 departments and university offices are currently involved. The pilot is continuing through Spring and Summer quarters to further assess user needs and system integration with Carmen courses and university accounts. Details...
LEARNING COLLABORATION STUDIO
The Learning Collaboration Studio (LCS) facilitates classroom collaboration and use of technology with laptops, screen-sharing software, video conferencing capacity, and reconfigurable seating. The LCS, located in the basement of the Science and Engineering Library, is a joint venture of University Libraries and the Digital Union. Join us for the grand opening with President E. ELEARNING FUNDING AND SUPPORT
TELR currently sponsors two funding programs to foster innovative uses of technology in teaching and learning:
- Expertise Grants promote eLearning experimentation through both funding and assistance from TELR's eLearning, multimedia, and design experts. Applications for the next round of grants are due May 1, 2008. Details...
- Distance and Open Education Innovation funds support planning and curriculum development for certificate and degree programs that enable any place, any time learning. Applications are due May 23, 2008. Details...
RECENT COLLABORATIONS
- The Digital Storytelling initiative—a joint project of TELR, the Digital Union, University Libraries, and FTAD—promotes the creation and use of short movies in academia, research and outreach. Several campus events are scheduled to coincide with the International Day for Sharing Life Stories on May 16, 2008. Details...
- TELR and University Libraries sponsored the lecture series "2020 Vision: The Future of Scholarship and Publishing" to explore issues of scholarship and publishing in the digital age. These talks are being archived in the University's Knowledge Bank. Details...
- TELR and the Digital Union presented a brownbag session for the Office of University Outreach and Engagement on technologies for communicating with the public about University research and services. Details...
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE DIGITAL UNION
- The Digital Union provided workshops and consultation to the Kiplinger Program for Public Affairs Journalism for the second year in a row. Journalists from the program have been invited to share their projects at the Digital Union's Anniversary Showcase on May 21.
- Through the TEAMS program, the Digital Union worked with faculty members from the chemistry and Spanish departments to teach multimedia skills to students. 56 students participated, each producing a 3-5 minute multimedia project. Details...
- The Digital Union launched its "Future Of..." series during Spring quarter. Sessions on news and learning featured invited speakers from the Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Institute for the Future, and Ohio State's Kiplinger Program. CARMEN UPDATES
Use of Carmen continues to grow—course offerings, unique instructors, and student enrollments have more than doubled since Carmen's debut in Autumn 2005. Also on the rise is the number of courses submitting grades to the Registrar directly from Carmen. Details...

YEARLY MAINTENANCE WINDOW
After consulting with Colleges and special programs, we are reserving the week before Labor Day for planned upgrades that require system downtime. This year, the reserved window is 1:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, through 7:00 a.m. Thursday, August 28. If we need to use this window, at least 6 weeks' advance notice will be given. Details...
